According to The Dostalk Scrapbook, there are 3 normal (as in Apple made 'em, I think) versions of DOS 3.3. PEEK (46725) supposedly tells you which is running: 165:oldest 186:better 182:latest I remember one had something to do with the way text files are handled. -- | / / />___________________ +==Apple // Forever==+ |___ _____ M#M#M#||___________________---__ +-37th Wisest Wizard-+ | \ \ / #M#M#M||___________________--- +- Edhel Iaur, Esq. -+ | / / \_/ \> http://www.wco.com/~3d5d1wsw/US-A2WUG/FOUNDING.MEMBERS/HOME.PAGES/EDHEL Path: news1.icaen!news.uiowa.edu!news.physics.uiowa.edu!math.ohio-state.edu!pacific.mps.ohio-state.edu!freenet.columbus.oh.us!not-for-mail From: dalloff@freenet.columbus.oh.us (Dave Althoff) Newsgroups: comp.sys.apple2 Subject: Re: DOS 3.3 versions Date: 31 Jan 1997 17:25:56 -0500 Organization: The Greater Columbus Free-Net Lines: 37 Message-ID: <5ctrhk$9i6@login.freenet.columbus.oh.us> References: <32f14ab2.11669907@167.152.149.11> NNTP-Posting-Host: login.freenet.columbus.oh.us X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] Edhel Iaur, Esq. Assuming that there are only three versions (the Truth is covered in "Beneath Apple DOS" which I keep promising myself, but haven't acquired yet), then the second version contains a patch for the APPEND bug (but apparently APPEND still doesn't work right...I don't really know since I just make it a habit not to use APPEND); the third version then would be the ][e release which contains yet another APPEND patch, and an additional bit of code which shuts off the 80-column firmware during boot. That version comes on a new System Master which uses the LOADER.OBJ0 program to fast-load INTBASIC (or FPBASIC), and a revised "HELLO" program which displays the "MAKE SURE CAPS LOCK IS DOWN" reminder on a ][e. Oh, this System Master is also less full than the earlier System Master because most of the demo programs were moved to the new "Sample Programs" disk. But for DOS 3.3, changes in the distribution disks are not particularly relevant to the changes in the OS itself. Okay, Apple ][ gurus, where did I screw *this* one up? 8-) ]Dave Althoff, ][. -- /-\ Celebrating the International Year of the Roller Coaster /XXX\ /X\ /X\_ _ /XX\_ _ _ _____ /XXXXX\ /XXX\ _/XXXX\_ /X\ /XXXXX\ /X\ /X\ /XXXXX _/XXXXXXX\__/XXXXX\/XXXXXXXX\_/XXX\_/XXXXXXX\__/XXX\_/XXX\_/\_/XXXXXX
