I tried initializing the modem I wouldn't be surprised if this is in the Apple FAQ. A straight through cable like you have WILL NOT work properly as you have seen. You must use a hardware handshaking cable. Sorry, I don't have the pinouts here with me. Also, make sure you are using a speed of 19.2k when dialling out with Proterm. It will override the SSC settings anyway. As for the init string; I would simply do this: Get into Proterm and go into terminal mode (make sure your online parameters are at 19.2k). Type AT &F This gets the factory defaults. Then type AT B0 T M3 S11=45 X4 &A3 &B1 &H1 &K1 &M4 AT &W This should set everything up good enough for you. Then for your proterm init string just use something like AT H0. The most important commands above are: B0 - Use V.xx standards, &B1 - FIXED DTE speed, &H1 - Use hardware handshaking and then &K1 and &M4 See how that goes for you. But you DEFINITELY need a hardware handshaking cable. perhaps someone can provide pinouts for you. Ihave a GS myself, so my pinouts wouldn't do you any good. -- Denis Fafard denisf@ersys.edmonton.ab.ca Edmonton Remote Systems Serving Edmonton/Northern Alberta since 1982
