:Hold the <shift> key down while booting to avoid loading
all but the essential system files.  This dramatically
speeds up the boot (4 sec @15.5Mhz!).  It can also be used to locate problem
INIT's which keep your system from booting

:Pressing the <control> key while booting overrides the
SetStart Control Panel.
 
:If a program (such as Test Drive II) doesn't work on your
hard disk, you probably created a folder or filename in
lowercase.  System 6 allows this, but it is incompatible
with some older programs.
 
:The new StyleWriter printer driver will not work very well
on a GS with less than 3 meg of memory.
 
:To close all open windows, press <apple> <option> W.
 
:To get a Postscript file from any GS document, press
<apple> F when clicking "Ok" in the LaserWriter driver.
This'll kick out a Postscript file in your */system/drivers

:To gain some free space on your system disk, you can delete
the file TS3 in the */system/system.setup folder (if you
have a ROM 01 Apple IIGS) and also TS2 (if you have ROM 03).
 
:If you're using ProDOS 8 v2.0.0 or higher (v2.0.3= current)
on a Vulcan Hard Disk or RamFast SCSI card, look in the
Apple II section of this file for info on how to turn the
auto-mapping of partitions off (may cause conflicts).

BASIC.SYSTEM.

If you do not use any BASIC programs, you could rename
BASIC.SYSTEM to BASIC.SYS (keeping PROSEL.SYSTEM in the Root
Directory).  GS/OS will not find BASIC.SYSTEM!

First, duplicate the file "P8" in the */system directory,
calling it P7.  Then, rename the file Prosel.system in the
root directory to Prosel.systen.  After that, follow the
file P7 with a block editor, and change the .SYSTEM to
Block.Warden!!!) on the 34 block of P7.  Finally, follow the
file ProDOS on your boot directory, and change the reference
to "P8" to "P7".
 
 
Now, when you boot with the <8> key pressed, you will be
placed directly into ProSEL 8.

::::::::::System Disk v4.02
 
If you have a Vulcan hard disk or RamFast SCSI Card and have
more than two partitions active, whenever you try to run a
ProDOS 8 program, the last two will not run or be
recognized.  The culprit is ProDOS 8 v2.0.x.  This version
automatically remaps partitions, causing a conflict.  You
can turn this feature off by changing the opcode A5 in the
sequence 10 BF C9 A5 D0 07 to 00 (Block $04 byte $1A3).
From BASIC.SYSTEM, you could make the same change by typing:
1) PREFIX /(any hard disk name)/system  2)  BLOAD
P8,A$2000,TSYS  3) POKE 10659,0  4) BSAVE P8,A$2000,TSYS.
This should solve the problem.  Or, you can upgrade your ROM
for $20 from CVTech.
 
:Be sure to grab the latest version of Namefix (distributed with 2QWK124.ZIP)
so ProDOS 8 filenames can be comatible with Mac/IBM's!  This is very handy for
ProTERM v3.1 downloads of "Illegal" file names.

:To change a desktop icon to any picture, first get the
picture on the clipboard (<apple> C), then "Get Information"
about the file, click on the icon, and press <apple>-V
(Paste) to paste the picture.
 
:To cancel loading all system extensions and cDEV's
(accessories), hold the <shift> key while booting the
system.
 
:To zap the P-Ram (battery settings- holds preferences)
while booting System 7, press <option> <command>-P-R.
 
:To rebuild the desktop, press <apple> <option> during
boot.
 
:To rebuild the desktop without having to restart your
computer, first force the Finder to quit by pressing <apple>
<option> <escape>.  Then, right after answering "OK", press
the <apple> and <option> keys.  Then, just click on "OK".
 
:Pressing <apple> <shift> 3 takes a "snapshot" of your
desktop, saving a PICT file in your root directory.
 
:Canceling most long operations can be accomplished by
pressing <apple> . (period).
 
:Holding the mouse button upon boot ejects the 3.5" disk.
 
:On most monitors, pressing the <space bar> while booting
allows you to select the resolution of the monitor.
 
:Most of the hints listed in the Apple IIGS for the Finder
