Here is the GIF code I found from the net.  Other places to check out are

comp.sources.unix for giftops & gif2ras.  This letter contains a shar file

a GIF decoder, encoder, and docs.  I know the decoder works, I can do big

800x600x256 GIFs on my frame grabber at work now.
