Apple Pascal 1.3 added support for booting from devices other than a 5.25" drive (and built-in support for using the ProDOS block driver in other interface cards). Earlier versions only support a 5.25" drive for booting, but a driver can be loaded during boot to allow data-only access to other drive types. All versions require disk controllers (for the built-in driver) to be in slots 4, 5 or 6.
