Anyone see the instructions somewhere in english? .... Yes; Mathieu Chenard posted a translation here about a year ago (2/14/1998)... >> Here is my translation of the text. The part about ABSOLUTE PATH is not clear in french. Maybe a coma is missing; you will have to test the path name to be sure! bonne chance! /V|athieu __ ___ _____Newton MP2000 _______ _________ralis l'aide d'un fidle Apple IIgs de 11 ans ___________olakamigenokaw8gan nizwaple... INSTALL HD Version 1.0, mai 1991 (c) 1991, Phoenix Corp. This software allows you to install on hard drive most of the rebelling softwares. In this version, the software is composed of a system patch for ProDOS 16 (v. 1.6.), a special program launcher for ProDOS 8 and a patch version of DUNGEON MASTER. For P16: - Install SYSP16 on the volume rooth (top of folder hierarchy) of the choosen partition. This will be the ProDOS 16 SYSTEM folder equivalent. - Also put the NEWPRO file (that we can rename.) The SYSP16 directory must content P16, SYSTEM.SETUP, DRIVERS and eventually DESK.ACCS but TOOLS and FONTS are not necessary (and take useful disk space) and maybe DESK.ACCS as well. The START file should be there. - Create a directory on the same partition anywhere on the disk with the name of the original application volume (named as installation directory thereafter) - In this directory, install another SYSP16 directory but without SYSTEM.SETUP, TOOLS, P16, DRIVERS et DESK.ACCS. However, keep the necessary tools and Fonts necessaires (and only them to save disk space.) - The files specific to the application and located in the original SYSTEM directory must be put in a SYSTEM directory just below installation directory. For example, the application's START file (not to be confused with the START file in the other SYSP16 that is used to patch the system.) However, if these files are under a numbered directory (1/ for */SYSP16 par exemple), we should put the files in the SYSP16 and not the SYSTEM directory, but it's not a frequent situation. - Instal the rest of the application in this sub-directory (exception the useless PRODOS file). For example, on a hard drive partition (not just the first) as /HARD2 and for the /APPLI application, we have: /HARD2/ /HARD2/ PRODOS ; unchanged SYSTEM ; unchanged SYSP16/ ; new, SYSTEM for PRODOS 16 SYSTEM.SETUP DESK.ACCS DRIVERS P16 START ; main software NEWPRO ; new, PRODOS for PRODOS 16 APPLI/ ; new, contents entire application SYSP16/ ; new local SYSTEM for P16 TOOLS/ FONTS/ SYSTEM ; new, not-system-files. From there, there are 2 ways: - put the SYS.16 application name STARTUP position in NEWPRO and launch NEWPRO with the prefix of the application directory to launch (not simple, need to be worked on!) - Use Prosel or WINGS. Put the title you want, the prefix of the desired application directory, the application to launch NEWPRO (that we can rename) with the path from the rooth directory because of used prefix and the app to launch in STARTUP position in ABSOLUTE PATH but from the directory where it is launched (if it is set, otherwise put nothing as path, only the app name.) Example: Test Drive II On the partition 4 of a Hard Drive volume named TEST. We want to put it inro /TEST/GAMES/TD2MASTER So, we have: /TEST PRODOS SYSTEM ... . . . NEWPRO SYSP16-----P16 SYSTEM.SETUP DESK.ACCS DRIVERS START (START from the patch diskette). DRIVERS START (START from the patch diskette). GAMES------TD2MASTER-----TD2.SYS16 SYSP16-------TOOLS FONTS And with PROSEL 16 specifications: Title: Test Drive II Prefix: /TEST/GAMES/TD2MASTER Appli: /TEST/NEWPRO Startup: /TD2MASTER/TD2.SYS16 ou TD2.SYS16 Note: The SYSTEM directory (under /TEST/TD2MASTER) doesn't exist because it's useless, the application doesn't contain any specific files in his SYSTEM directory. If a RAMDisk (/RAM5 from the memory manager) is present, it will be disabled and erased. It will be re-install after reboot or quit, but the information on it is lost. It's possible to set a second path in the STARTUP, delimited by a coma; this optional path is used to replace a second disk. The name will be the same as the second disk name. Example: Rocket Ranger. On partition 4 of a HD volume named TEST. As the software is on 2 disks named /ROCKET.RANGER1 and /ROCKET.RANGER2, the app will be in 2 sub-directory: /TEST/ROCKET.RANGER1 amd /TEST/ROCKET.RANGER2. So, we have: /TEST /TEST PRODOS SYSTEM ... . . . NEWPRO SYSP16-------P16 SYSTEM.SETUP DESK.ACCS DRIVERS START (START from the patch disk). ROCKET.RANGER1-----RR.SYS16 SYSP16------TOOLS ; with only TOOL025 SYSTEM------CW ; only TOOL025 file SYSTEM------CW ; only one file FONTS GFX SND TXT ROCKET.RANGER2-----GFX SND TXT PROSEL 16 specifications: Title: Rocket Ranger Prefix: /TEST/ROCKET.RANGER1 Appli: /TEST/NEWPRO Startup: /ROCKET.RANGER1/RR.SYS16,/TEST/ROCKET.RANGER2 Startup: /ROCKET.RANGER1/RR.SYS16,/TEST/ROCKET.RANGER2 or Startup: RR.SYS16,/TEST/ROCKET.RANGER2 Note: The SYSTEM directory (under ROCKET.RANGER1) includes only CW it's the only application file in SYSTEM directory. We could avoid 2 directories by putting all files of GFX, SND, TXT under ROCKET.RANGER2 in respective directories under ROCKET.RANGER1. For P8: - Create a directory with the same name as the application volume. - The Launch.System program must be in the directory of the app to launch. - We launch with the application directory as the prefix, as LAUNCH.SYSTEM application and as STARTUP original application. We can put STARTUP as "hard" (for the Finder...) or as a parameter (for PROSEL or WINGS). Example: Zany Golf Same as Test Drive II, to install in /TEST/GAMES/ZANY.GOLF/DISK /TEST /TEST GAMES/ZANY.GOLF/DISK------LAUNCH.SYSTEM DOS8.SYSTEM . . . . . . PROSEL specifications: Appli: Zany Golf Prefix: /TEST/GAMES/ZANY.GOLF/DISK Appli: Launch.System Startup: DOS8.SYSTEM Pour Dungeon Master: Only the altered files are in the directory. You just have to copy this directory anywhere on the hard drive and adding the missing files: DUNGEON.BONUS, DUNGEON.GAME, DUNGEON.KEY, GRAPHICS.GAME. The DUNGEONSAVE directory will contain saved games. The START (or DM.START who also flush memory) file is the one to be launched (don't launch DUNGEON.MASTER !!!) It works well under GS/OS 5.04. But with 1.25 Mb, try to reduce number of INITs, CDAs, NDAs, etc. or it will crash. The best is to flush memory (as with Prosel) before launching Dungeon Master. Restrictions: - Only one application's volume is managed under Prodos 8. For example, my patched Battle Chess version doesn't work. - Only two application's volumes under Prodos 16. - No GS/OS version. - Delicate installation for Prodos 16 version, especially to manage one SYSP16 for every applications. Remarques: - The software is mostly useful for games. It's hard to believe that a professional application or utility can't run under last system version (P8 or GS/OS 5.04 unpatched). - There's not many ProDOS 8 or 16 apps using more than one volume without being hard-drive-installable. << Rubywand
