The Print Shop Companion ------------------------ System Requirements: Apple ][+, ][e, ][c with at least 64K The Print Shop Companion is a utility with the original Print Shop program. With the Print Shop Companion you can make and edit graphics and fonts, make random design tiles, and create your own calendars! You can use this program with the koala pad, mouse, joystick, or the keyboard. The docs will focus on the keyboard control, however the mouse/ joysticck/koala pad function in much the same way. Commands that are active throughout the program: The keys to move the cursor are: I J K M The keys to scroll the pictures are: W A S Z The 'U' key will undo the last thing you did. 'CTRL-S' will save the picture that you are working on now. 'CTRL-G' will retrieve a picture from another disk. 'CTRL-P' will print the picture that you are working on now. 'CTRL-C' erases every thing that you are working on now. 'CTRL-D' lets the program recognize a joystick/mouse/koala pad that was plugged in after the program booted up. 'CTRL-Q' lets you go back to the main menu. Graphic Editor: The graphic editor enables you to create your own graphics, or modify ones on one of the other Print Shop disks. When you are in the keyboard mode you can move around using the I,J,K,M keys. If you are in mouse/joystick mode you move around by moving the controller. If you hold down the bottom you can draw freehand. Pressing 'D' key draws one dot when in keyboard mode. Pressing 'E' key erases one dot when in keyboard mode. (Notes: They are requested in the inverse drawing mode.) Pressing 'C' enters you into the constrain mode. In this mode you can draw straight lines by 'C' key once, then moving the cursor to another point press 'C' again, and the program will draw a straight line from point a to point B. Pressing the 'P' key gets you to the pattern section of the screen. In this mode you can select patterns to fill with. The 'X' key toggles the mirror command. you can capture images of the last graphics that you were using by hitting CTRL-RESET while in another program (the one you want the graphics from) then putting the Print Shop Companion disk into the drive. After you get to the graphics editor press CTRL-G. While in this mode the 'D' key will condense double hi-res to normal hi-res. The CTRL-G key will also let you retrieve graphics from another disk (such as side B of the companion, and the library disks.) CTRL-T will print out the current picture as a tile desing. '1' will let you insert a row. '2' will let you delete a row. '3' will let you insert a column. '4' will let you delete a column. 'F' will let you flood fill an enclosed object with a pattern selected using the 'P' key. 'H' will flip the graphic horizontally. 'V' will flip vertically. 'N' will print the graphics in inverse. 'L' will let you draw a line in any direction. 'R' will let you draw a ray. 'B' will let you draw a box. 'O' will let you draw an oval. 'T' will allow you to input text into your graphic. Border Editor: With this utility you can use 50 new borders that are included in the program with the print shop, plus you can create your own borders. The cursor, and the drawing are controlled exactly the same in this utility as they are in the graphics editor. The only differences are: 'B' will make the bottom a mirror image of the top. 'R' will make the right side a mirror image of the left. 'T' this key controls how much of a border is left between the border and the tile graphics. The Font Editor: The font editor comes with 12 different fonts for the Print Shop program. Plus the ability to design your own! The controls are: 'I' toggles on and off the index lines on the graphics screen. 'A' changes the size indexing lines on the graphics screen. Tile Magic: The tile magic option lets you stop random design on the screen at any time and save it as a tile design to print out on the Print Shop disk. Creature Maker: The creature maker allows people with no artistic talent to create graphics of animals, people, and monsters. The figures can mix body parts so you could have rabbit legs and a human face. When you are done creating a creature you can press return, then you can decide if you want to save the creature the way it is, or if you want to edit it with the graphics editor. Calendar: The calendar option allows you to create your own monthly or weekly calendars. You can incorporate graphics and text into each of the calendars, and can customize the calendar to say exactly what you want it to. The days are automatically numbered (for years 1770-1993), then all you have to do is pick the messages.
