Path: CV Technologies/RamFast SCSI Subj: CD-ROM HFS partitions 91-11-20 02:09:37 EDT From: GNO Tim Posted on: America Online I noticed this earlier on an older _develop_ CD-ROM and I now have the new system 6.0 beta CD-ROM from Apple. My problem is: I can't seem to access the HFS partitions on the CD-ROM. I'm currentl using a RamFast Rev C, a Syquest SQ555, and a Toshiba CD-ROM drive. I've installed the HFS FST and I have booted off the CD-ROM and I've booted off the Syquest. My system will recogonize HFS 3.5 disks and I can format HFS partitions on my hard drive, but I cannot seem to access the HFS partitions on any of these CD-ROMS - in particular the developer CD. I really need to access of some the tech notes on it and I'd rather not buy a Macintosh to do so. I believe one of the reasons Apple left several partitions as HFS is because the new FSTs will read them. In fact, the release notes with CD specifically state that to access the HFS partions you need a Mac -or- need to install the HFS FST..I'm currently assuming that my problem is related to the RamFast not recognizing these partitions...is there a solution to this problem? thanks in advance.. tim meekins **************************************************************************** Path: CV Technologies/RamFast SCSI Subj: IDEA 91-11-26 00:49:38 EDT From: Pizpot Posted on: America Online If you have an accelerator on your home system, TURN IT OFF. I am pretty sure that PipeDream bites the big one if there is an accelertor turned on in the system. I have loaded PipeDream off my CMS, with a Ramfast with no problem. BTW, I have two 800k volumes set up so that I can do a disk (byte by byte, bit by bit) copy to those volumes and the game pretty much thinks its still on its original disk. The Romdisk is not a SCSI device therefore it does not have a SCSI ID number. Just make sure that your SCSI devices have unique ID numbers and you're all set. In the driver's folder on your hard drive you need to add the RamFAST.Driver and pull out the SCSI.Manager and SCSI.HDDriver. The files that start with "SCSI." contain the software to handle the Apple SCSI card. The apple software has a bug that can prevent your system from booting if the system does not contain an Apple SCSI card. You should also disable all desk accesories and inits until your system is up and running. Inits like "Fast.Speed" and desk accessories like Twlight can cause you lots of grief. I admit, it has a bunch of insporatic bugs; the best solution is to try it installed on your system and without and see which way you like best :-) [it does work well in some situations], that is while you're hopefully waiting for Twilight II to come out :-) to fix all this. <
