If the files were squeezed separately first and then made into a Binary II file BLU will still unsqueeze them automatically as long as the files have a suffie files. If there is insufficient space then the program will issue an error message and exit back to the main menu. It will not extract any files unless there is enough space. Squeezed files within the Binary II file will be AUTOMATICALLY unsqueezed whrwrite any files, except the above. If there is a duplicate file then BLU will add an extension of '.n' to the filename. For example, if you just received a text file via XMODEM from an MS-DOS computer, you'll want to remove the High-Res mode utility that you can use to clean up files downloaded from an information service. To run it, you need an Apple IIGS with ProDOS 16 and a mouse. Launch it from the Finder, Launcher, or any other ProDOS 16 program selector. In AppleWorks, the standard tab width is every five columns, so you type a "5" in the text box. The following are the check-box options: Strip Nulls from Eh the help of "Mastering the Apple IIGS Toolbox" and "Advanced Programming Techniques for the Apple IIGS Toolbox", two books I wrote with Dan Gookin. They show you how to master the toolbox using 65816 assembler, TML Pascal, and APW C. They are now selliinformation services, but please include this document with the program. This is public domain software -- not a shareware or commercial product. Please, I beg you, DO NOT SEND MONEY. This program is shows what you can learn to do on your Apple IIGS wit have more descriptive error messages, but for the most part you shouldn't ever encounter an error while using the application. A Few Last Words ================ File Fixer is written in the APW C programming language. Pass it around to your friends on or example, if your disk runs out of space while fixing a file, you'll get this message: An error stopped this operation! ProDOS: $0048 $0048 is the ProDOS 16 error code that means "Your disk is full". The next version of File Fixer willtion that has been fixed and safely saved to disk. The entire process is over when the gauge is all green. Error Messages ============== The 1.1.1 version of File Fixer has excellent error trapping, however the error messages can be a bit mysterious. F thermometer-style gauge on the screen. This tells you how much work there is to be done, and gives you a good idea of how long it will take. While the gauge is drawn in red, the file data is being fixed. The green portions on the gauge indicate informaa TXT or SRC file, you'll be asked to confirm the fixing of a binary file. (In general, File Fixer is useful with files containing text. But there are some options that can be useful for binary files.) Once the file fixing is in progress, you're shown action dialog box. Clicking Help reminds you to read this document for helpful information. And clicking OK tells File Fixer to fix your file with the options you've selected. Once you click OK, File Fixer will begin to fix your file. If the file isn't If unchecked, File Fixer will fix the file you selected and leave no other files lingering about. Fixing the File =============== At the bottom of the dialog box are three buttons: Cancel, Help, and OK. Clicking Cancel will return you to the file selexer to keep a copy of the original file. This box is checked for you automatically each time you run the program. When checked, fixing a file will result in two files: the fixed file (with the original name), and the original file with a .BAK extension.ls from the end of the file. So if this option is selected, you needn't select "Strip Nulls from End of File". You should use this option only with text files. Keep a Backup Copy of the File ------------------------------ Checking this box tells File Fi------- Checking this filter option causes the program to remove all control characters from your file other than tab (9), return (13), or linefeed (10). This can be used to remove nulls from within the middle of your file, however it also will remove nuldle of the file (see the next section on how to do that). Nulls are often attached to the end of a file that was downloaded using XMODEM protocol. This is handy for both text and binary data files. Filter Most Control Characters -----------------------nd of File ---------------------------- Checking the Strip Nulls box tells File Fixer to remove all nulls (Control-@'s, or ASCII 0's) from the end of your file. This simply removes nulls from the very end of the file, but will not remove them from the midng at most computer book stores. So if you're itching to write programs just like this one, and ready to master QuickDraw II, ProDOS 16, desk accessories, and all the other fun stuff that lives in the toolbox, run down to the bookstore and flip through them.
