Holding down the mouse button will scroll up/down repeatedly. There is no checking to see if the file you have selected is actually a disk image or not. You can select any file you wish and DiskMaker 8 will attempt to use it as a disk image. Regardlesnded files by DiskMaker 8. To use these files you must go to your AppleShare server and rename the files to a legal ProDOS file name. Clicking on the up or down arrow on the right hand side of the file list box will scroll the file list one file at a timen use it. There are a few ways to do this including some freeware utilities available on the Internet. AppleShare volumes under ProDOS 8 put "?"'s in filenames to represent illegal characters in the file name. These files are treated the same as an extesign on the left hand side of a file name in the file list box indicates that the file is a GSOS extended file and cannot be opened. If you wish to open an image that is an extended file, you must first remove the resource fork from the file before you cad set your prefix to any point within. Notes for this screen: ---------------------- Double clicking on a file entry in the file list window is the same as pressing the Open button. This makes it easier to navigate a file list using a mouse. A "+" line volumes (same as pressing the Disks button). Quit Button (oa-Q): Quits DiskMaker 8 and returns you to your ProDOS 8 launcher. Close Button (oa-C): Moves you up one directory level. If you are already at the top level then you will get a listing of your current oncurrently mounted volumes in the file list window. Open Button (oa-Q): This will select the current file in the file list box. If a volume list is currently being shown then it will display the files in the root level of that voltion Screen ---------------------- This is the first screen you get when you launch DiskMaker 8. It will show you the files in your current prefix. The following actions are available: Disks Button (oa-D): Selecting this will show all of your Mouse Basics ------------ If you see a mouse cursor in the upper left hand corner of your screen when you launch DiskMaker 8, then it has recognized the mouse capabilities on your system. You use the mouse as you would with any GUI program. Image Selecthe current button/popup box or check box. - Arrow keys moves your currently selected file/device in the list boxes. - oa + first letter of button text is usually the shortcut key to that buttons function for easier keyboard use.po, .hdv, .raw) - DOS Order Images (.do, .dsk) Keyboard Basics --------------- - Tab key moves you from the currently selected button/popup box or check box to the next one. - Option Tab moves backwards. - Return key or space bar selects of ProDOS. Recommended: - A hard disk for storing images. - An Apple II compatible mouse for ease of navigation. Support Disk Image Formats: - Universal Disk Image (.2mg) - DiskCopy 4.2 (.dc) - DiskCopy 6 (.dc6) - ProDOS Order Images (.compatible storage devices for source and target. The source must be large enough to hold the target's disk image. - It has been tested extensively under ProDOS 8 v1.9 and ProDOS 8 v2.0.3. Your mileage may vary on older versions s of what file you select, you shouldn't be able to create any fatal problems for DiskMaker 8. Target Device Selection Screen ------------------------------ After selecting a disk image file, you're brought here to select a target. The following actions available on this screen. About Button (oa-A): Display copyright information for this program. Back Button (oa-B): Quits this screen retuning you to the image selection screen. Make Disks Button (oa-M): Starts the procesters, Jean-Marc Boutillon, Tony Cianfaglione, Bill Garber and Glenn Jones. They found a lot of the bugs that I couldn't. A special thank you to Tony Diaz for doing the beta DiskMaker 8 demo at KFest 2005. Finally thanks to Andy McFadden, Scott Hemphillrl Bunker for their inspiration. They showed me how 8-bit Apple II programs should be written and were master Apple II programmers in their day. Thank you to Jerry Hewett from Living Legends Software for Hyperformat. A big round of applause to my beta te A2 gang for their support. In particular to Eric "Sheppy" Shepherd and Kelvin "GShisen" Sherlock for their knowledge sharing and patience with my constant questions. I couldn't have done this without them. Thanks to Andy Nicholas, Greg Schaefer and Kaupport by sending an email to Mark@Syndicomm.com. Also check the DiskMaker 8 web site for additional information and the latest version at http://www.syndicomm.com/~mark/DM8/. Special Thanks: --------------- A tip of the hat to the entire Syndicomm Onlincash, mail payment to: Mark Percival 274 rue des Oeillets Otterburn Park, Quebec J3H 6G4 Sorry, due to bank charges, no personal checks or money orders can be accepted. Finally, it makes the disk from your image and should tell you if the creation was successful or not. Registering DiskMaker 8 ----------------------- This software is fully-functionaer 8 will ask you if you wish to format the target. Holding down the Option key while pressing the "Make Disk" button on the previous screen will force this prompt to appear. This can be handy if DiskMaker 8 believes the target is formatted but you know t files since not all of the blocks on the original disk image may be written to the target. There may be situations where this may be handy. The next step, DiskMaker 8 will attempt to determine if the target is already formatted or not. If not, DiskMakK disk image that you need to recover files from but no Disk ][ attached to your system. This will allow you to write the image to a large RAM disk, hard drive partition or even a 3.5" disk. An image too large for a device could produce a disk with corruped matches the size of the device you selected. If there is a mismatch it will warn you and allow you to either proceed or cancel. An image too small for a device will produce a disk with some lost space. This can be good if, for example, you have a 140shows only those devices that matches the size of your disk image. This is on by default. Making Your Disk ---------------- The first thing that DiskMaker 8 does after selecting "Make Disk" is to check that the size of the image you have selectable to determine the image type it will default to "ProDOS Order (PO)". This pop up box allows you to manually override this setting to whatever you need. "Same-size disks only" checkbox: When checked, the device list box ess of writing your selected disk image to your currently selected device. Image Type Pop Up Box: When you select an image from the image selection screen, DiskMaker 8 will attempt to identify the type of image.
