An electronic ignition system doesn't have points or a condenser. >>POINTS Check the breaker points on the distributor every the old cap to the new one, gently twist the old cap out of the way and install the new one. >P Remove one wire at a time and install it in the same tower of the new cap. Be sure to press the wires firmly into the cap connectors. >>BORD4 To remove hed to the distributor by two screws. A new one is attached the same way. >P The press-type rotor has a flat side or key that you have to align with the flat side or keyway of the distributor shaft. >>DISTCAP3 When switching the spark plug wires fromeave the spark plug wires attached to the cap. >P A distributor cap has either spring-loaded L-hooks or two spring clips or cap screws. Any or all of these can be removed by a screwdriver. >>ROTOR The rotor is either pressed into place or it is attacributor cap with a mild soap solution to remove all traces of carbon. >>DISTCAP2 Replace the cap if the electrical contacts are badly pitted or burned or if the cap and/or rotor are cracked. Use a screwdriver to remove the distributor cap and rotor. Lell angle, an overcharging alternator, or oil on the points. If dwell is correct, but burning occurs, check for oil seepage past a worn shaft bushing in the distributor or for a plugged positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve. >>WASHCAP Wash the distn the condenser case and the distributor can cause pitting too. >P Check and clean the condenser mounting bracket or terminal when you service the distributor. Remove any dirt or corrosion. >>BORD3 Points will burn rapidly if there is too large a dws a tachometer as well. >>POINTS Pits in breaker points are usually caused by a defective condenser. If the points are pitted, replace the condenser when replacing the points. The condenser is located here. >*POINTS.F A poor ground connection betweel is the time that the points stay closed when the engine is running. The dwell angle is changed by altering the position of the fixed breaker points. The larger the angle, the longer the points remain closed, and vice versa. The dwell meter functions a sure they are properly gapped. Don't bother to measure the gap of points that are very rough or pitted, because the measurement wouldn't be accurate. >>BORD2 Use a dwell meter to gap the points accurately and to check and adjust the dwell angle. Dwel2 Breaker points that are deeply pitted or burned should be replaced. Points that are dirty, dull or have a slightly rough surface can still be used if the rough surfaces are filed smooth. >>POINTGAP When checking and maintaining breaker points makemaintain breaker points you must make sure that they are aligned, their surfaces are clean and fairly smooth and... >P ...that the spring in the point set has the right tension, so that the rubbing block applies the right pressure against the cam. >>BORD six months. Normally points last about 10,000 miles (15,000 km). >P Mechanics usually replace the points and condenser at the same time. They are not expensive and it is a good idea to replace them rather than trying to maintain them. >>POINTS3 To the breaker points and the condenser, you have to remove the air cleaner, distributor cap and rotor.
