CTRL-N advances you to the next page, while CTRL-P returns you to the previous page. When you are finished reading the Instructions, press CTRL-O to return to the Typing Screen. The best way to lear or page by entering the Chapter letter or page number you want, and pressing RETURN. When you press RETURN, the chapter or page you specified immediately appears. To page through the Instructions, press CTRL- press CTRL-O, and these Instructions appear. When you press CTRL-O for Instructions, the first screen you see is the Table of Contents. At any time while using the Instructions, you can access a specific Chaptege 3 of these Instructions. If you need help while using the Typing Screen, press CTRL-Q, and a Help Screen that explains the Typing Screen appears. If you need additional information on using The Typewriter, prints each character of text as it is entered, while Line Mode prints on a line-by-line basis. Line Mode offers several features not offered by Character Mode. Both modes are discussed in further detail on panation of each key appearing next to it. To use the program, all you need to do is set the typing options, and begin typing. The Typewriter offers two typing modes: Character Mode and Line Mode. Character Mode keys, and are similar to the options found on a standard electronic typewriter. For convenient reference, the command keys used by The Typewriter are listed at the bottom of the Typing Screen, with a brief explas you to enter text, displays the text you have already typed, lists your typing options, and lets you make your option selections. Once you are familiar with the program, you will find there are few typing tasks it cannot perform. PAGE 1 2. Printing the Instructions To print the Instructions, press CTRL-I while you are viewing them on the screen, and they will print from the beginning. The progrle in Character Mode, press RETURN and the printer advances to the next line. Line Mode automatically prints each line of text after it is entered. The maximum line length is determined by the number of charact the Instructions. 1. Changing Typing Modes (CTRL-C) The Typewriter offers two typing modes: Character Mode and Line Mode. Character Mode prints each character as it is typed on your keyboard. To end a line whi line. These keys let you change typing modes, specify margins, set and clear tabs, and advance your printer to the next page. They also allow you to identify the type of printer you have, exit The Typewriter, get help, and reademaining item indicates how many spaces remain until you reach the Right Margin. The status line also displays the word "Inserting" when Insert is on. The command keys and their purpose are listed below the status PAGE 2 current status of the following: The Column item indicates the current column number of the Typing Screen cursor, the Mode item displays the current typing mode, and the Spaces R are indicated by T's, and the typing cursor position is shown by a (carat) that appears under the ruler. A status line appears below the typing ruler. It features three items (Column, Mode, and Spaces Remaining) that indicate the of the program options. At the bottom of the Typing Screen is a typing ruler that numbers each column, and shows your current margins, tabs, and cursor position. The current margins are represented by brackets, the tabsr. It lets you enter text, displays the text you have already typed, and allows you to set your typing options. For convenient reference, it also lists the command keys, and it indicates the current status second time to turn insert mode off. DELETE Available in Line Mode only, this key deletes the character under the cursor. D. THE TYPING SCREEN The Typing Screen works just like a typewritef. When pressed, the word "Inserting" is displayed beneath the typing ruler on the Typing Screen. All characters are inserted in front of the cursor. Press CTRL-A a the Left Margin to the Right Margin prompt. TAB Advances the cursor to the next Tab setting. CTRL-A Available in Line Mode only, this command turns insert mode on and of to perform additional operations: RETURN When you are typing in Line Mode, press RETURN to print the current line. When setting margins, press RETURN to move the cursor from he end of each page. The printed Instructions are 7 pages long. C. GETTING AROUND The Typewriter uses control keys to perform operations normally accomplished by typewriter keys. The program also uses other keysam will pause at the end of each page during printing, so that you will be able to load single sheets. After loading each sheet, press RETURN to continue printing. If you have continuous feed paper, simply press RETURN at ters between your Left and Right Margin, but in no event can a line exceed 80 characters. As you type, each line of text automatically prints when the cursor reaches the Right Margin. If you are in the middle of a word, the word is sent to the next line, and the remainder of the line prints. You can also force a line to print in Line Mode by pressing RETURN. When you press RETLEFT MARGIN, type the number of the column you want as your margin, and press RETURN. The cursor proceeds to the Right Margin setting. Repeat this procedure for the RIGHT MARGIN. When you press RETURN after entMARGIN is 10, and the RIGHT MARGIN is 70. The cursor is initially positioned over the LEFT MARGIN setting. To leave this margin unchanged, press RETURN, and the cursor advances to the RIGHT MARGIN setting. To change the LEFT MARGIN: 10 RIGHT MARGIN: 70 The number next to each prompt indicates the current margin setting. If you have not changed the default margins, the LEFT t 10, and its Right Margin is set at 70. To change one or both margins, press CTRL-S. The command key list and status line under the typing ruler disappear, and a LEFT MARGIN and RIGHT MARGIN prompt appear: at the time of the mode change. If you forget which mode you are using, you can refer to the Mode item on the status line. 2. Setting and Changing Margins (CTRL-S) The Typewriter's Left Margin is initially set ansert is on, check the line to be sure it is correct, and press RETURN. Press CTRL-C to switch typing modes. If you change to Character Mode while using Line Mode, the current line prints to the cursor position will have to delete some characters in order to continue inserting, or press RETURN to print the entire line. This prevents lines from being printed before you are finished editing them. To print a line while ions once it is printed. If you are Inserting characters in a line, the last word of your line will not wrap to the next line when you reach the Right Margin. To fill in a preprinted form with such a printer, you will have to use tabs to control the position of characters on the l preprinted form or type in a specific place on your paper. On some printers, however, the printer head will not move when a space is typed. If your printer is one of these, you it is entered, you can look at the placement of the printer head or the location of the last character printed to see where typed characters will appear. For this reason, use Character Mode when you want to fill in a URN, the current line prints, and your printer and cursor advance to the next line. Each mode has unique functions that suits it for use in different situations. Because Character Mode prints each character as ering the RIGHT MARGIN, your new margins are set, and the status line and command key list reappear. The brackets on the typing ruler indicate your new margins. If you want to change a LEFT MARGIN setting when the cursor is next to the RIGHT MARGIN prompt, press TAB, and the cursor returns to the LEFT MARGIN prompt. To set a new Tab, place the cursor in the column you want your Tab, press CTRL-T, and a T appears on the typing ruler at the Tab location. Repeat 3. Setting and Clearing Tabs (CTRL-T) The Typewriter's initial Tab is set at 15. To clear it or any other Tab, place the cursor in the column with the current Tab (indicated by a T on the typing ruler), ove. If you inadvertently type an incorrect number for either margin, press Left Arrow to eliminate the current number, type in a new number for your margin, and press RETURN.
